Scotland Boiler Hire

Temporary Boiler Hire

Temporary boiler hire provides heating during a planned plant room replacement, upgrade or shutdown. The aim is to bridge the works period while the building’s normal boiler plant is unavailable.

Discuss the temporary arrangement with Scotland Boiler Hire before the permanent equipment is removed. A clear scope brings together the heat load, connection work, delivery position and the date the building needs its heating or hot water.

Plan the Changeover Before Removing Plant

The temporary installation needs its own place in the replacement programme. Survey and connection planning should happen before the old plant is disconnected, with a changeover window agreed by the building manager and the contractors doing the work.

Record what remains operational during each stage. Can any existing boilers remain in operation while individual units are replaced, and which services would they support? Discuss these questions during the site assessment rather than assuming retained heating.

For projects where the permanent system has already failed, the emergency hire route focuses on the immediate outage and available site information.

What Belongs in the Hire Scope?

Define the proposed installation scope before hire. Ask which equipment, delivery, connection, commissioning and collection services are included in the quotation.

  • Specify the equipment and the heating or hot water duty it will serve.
  • Identify temporary hoses, pipework, pumps and heat exchange equipment that the design requires.
  • Agree electrical and fuel connections, with responsibilities for supply and replenishment.
  • Confirm the controls, handover information and support arrangements.
  • Describe removal, reinstatement and any site works needed after collection.

These are items to define in the agreed scope. They should not be assumed to be included simply because the hire is described as a temporary boiler package.

Weeks or Months of Temporary Heating

A hire period may cover a short shutdown or continue while a larger plant room refurbishment progresses. Give the expected start and finish dates, but also explain which programme event determines when the temporary plant can be removed.

Describe the expected programme duration. Ask whether the hire can be extended or shortened, and what collection arrangements apply to the proposed package.

Operation During a Longer Hire

Agree who checks the plant, records faults and coordinates access for maintenance. Identify fuel responsibilities and the contact route for an operating problem. A site handover should make these arrangements clear to the people managing the building.

Match the Installation to the Load

The design starts with the heating demand and the system it must connect to. Useful background includes the existing boiler ratings, the circuits that must stay in service, operating information and any drawings already available.

Our boiler capacity page shows how nominal 300kW modules can be combined, while explaining why a module total alone cannot confirm suitability.

Domestic hot water adds a separate design question. Identify the existing cylinders or heat exchangers, the periods of high demand and whether heating and hot water are needed at the same time.

Delivery and Connection Space

Siting is agreed during the site survey and follows the selected equipment manufacturer’s instructions.

In an occupied school, hospital estate or office, temporary pipe routes must be coordinated with the people responsible for access and safety. Include delivery hours, gate arrangements and any planned work happening in the same area.

Put the Temporary Plant on Your Programme

For a Scotland Boiler Hire discussion, bring the site postcode, replacement programme, proposed hire dates and the services that must remain available. Photos and drawings can be discussed during follow-up. Do not send photos containing confidential records.

Describe the connection work already included in your M&E contract and any tasks still to be allocated. Use the hire enquiry form to set out those requirements and identify the on-site contact for a survey discussion.
